Polypipe Civils design bespoke manhole solution for difficult site conditions on large-scale residential project.
Poor ground conditions and a high water table at the site of a new housing development caused problems for both CJL Construction and Persimmon Homes for the installation of foul drainage manholes. Working in conjunction with CJL and Wessex Water, Polypipe Civils supplied over 70 bespoke, sealed manholes in 1200mm for the foul water drainage scheme.
In accordance with Sewers for Adoption initiative, which played a significant part in the specification for the bespoke manhole product, each manhole was designed and manufactured as a pre-formed and pre-benched chamber with a complete shaft. This reduced the potential for leakage and groundwater contamination. The lack of joints within the manhole construction ensured potential leakage points were dramatically reduced in comparison to traditional materials which often require several joints. Installed with a concrete bed and surround, each manhole was capable of resisting floatation caused by the high water table.
Manufactured off-site at Polypipe Civils’ Fabrication Department, each manhole was delivered to site ready for installation.
Polypipe Civils and CJL worked together closely throughout the 2 year project to deliver the bespoke solution for the large-scale project.
