Polypipe WMS donated a full rainwater harvesting solution for the Low Carbon Earthship project in Brighton.
The Earthship building has been developed by the Low Carbon Trust as an ‘off-grid’ building, using electricity generated by solar energy, harvested rainwater and dealing with waste directly on-site. Polypipe WMS donated four Eco-Vat rainwater harvesting tanks, each with a 20,000 litre capacity and since its installation, has provided total water savings of over 150,000 litres.
Together with the Eco-Vat tanks, Polypipe WMS provided all fittings, a vortex filter and full maintenance training to help the Brighton Earthship to become the first development in the UK to utilise rainwater for both potable and non-potable uses.
Since opening in 2007, the Brighton Earthship has provided a key learning environment for the local community, raised the awareness of ‘low carbon living’ and provided a stunning example of sustainable design and ‘off-grid’ building.
